What are Obama’s school plans for florida?

My friend live in florida and told me that Obama will be taking away FCAT which is a important test!! Starting school at 8 and ending school at 5. And making summer vacation 15 days and no winter vacation. Is this true?, If not please tell me his school plans for Florida my friend needs to know?

I Dont know about Florida, but the whole idea of extending the school day / year is a joke. It never ceases to amaze me when I see nonsense like this. Example: Schools in foreign countries have longer school days , years etc and therefore those students do better or get a better education. Not true ,if you compare apples to apples.

First of all, other countries have a high regard for education and its teachers. This is NOT necessarily true in the USA.
In other countries parents take time from their schedules to teach their children at home. Here students are placed in front of TV sets..( electronic babysitter).
In other countries parents Insist that their children study, do their school work, get good grades, do homework etc. Here, parents more interested in having schools baby sit their children, and are satisfied when students bring home mediocre grades rather than insisting on excellence.
There is a much higher degree of discipline in foreign countries. In foreign countries, its a disgrace to the family if a parent has to visit a school due to a student misbehaving. Here, parents make excuses for their child’s inappropriate behavior.
In some foreign countries, students are pre tested, and then ordered to take either academic or vocational training. Therefore only academically inclined students are allowed to attend regular High Schools. Naturally then, if you teaching only the cream of the crop, you would expect that these student should do better than our schools which allow all students to attend.

Is anyone thinking about the costs involved in extending the school year? More hours mean more salaries. Also, What about all the schools that dont have air conditioning throughout the country? Many summer school programs had to close early due extreme heat in the schools. what will this cost?

He is also in favor of charter schools ( more expensive to run than current schools) and merit pay for teachers. As far as merit pay goes, I think that our elected officials should have this, the President included. Those who do not perform would get reduction in pay. Oh, wait a minute that would be all of them President included.

The president may not be the governor of a particular state, but a fedreal mandate could be made to extend the school year. Then all would have to comply.
